Match the symptom before trying a fix
An iPhone that does not show iOS 27 has a different problem from one that downloaded the update but cannot verify or install it. Random resets can destroy useful clues and still leave the original cause untouched. Record the exact alert, the current iOS version, the model name, available storage, and whether the failure happens during checking, downloading, verifying, or installing.

How long does an iOS 27 update take? There is no universal timer
Apple does not publish one duration that applies to every iPhone. Download time depends on update size and internet speed. Installation time also depends on the update and the number of files on the device, so a major upgrade and a small point release can take very different amounts of time on the same model. Passing an arbitrary 20-minute mark does not by itself prove that the update is frozen.
Identify the phase first. You can continue using the iPhone while the update downloads, and iOS notifies you when it is ready to install. During installation, the progress bar can move slowly or look temporarily still, so keep the phone connected to power. Where to find the iOS 27 update

A work or school iPhone can have an update delay or restriction imposed by device management. Do not remove a management profile from an organization-owned phone. Ask the administrator whether the rollout is deferred. If the phone is personally owned but supervised unexpectedly, identify the organization before changing the profile.
Fix Unable to Check, Download, or Verify Update
Apple groups these messages around reaching the update server and verifying the package. Retry on the same Wi-Fi once, then use a different reliable network. If the update is not listed there, skip this step; do not delete unrelated system data or apps just to imitate it.

Start with iPhone Storage recommendations and replaceable downloads. Offloading an app keeps its documents and data, while deleting an app can remove its local data. Photos and Messages may be synchronized with iCloud, so verify sync and backup state before deleting them. A computer update can reduce pressure on device storage, but it still requires a current backup.
If the progress bar looks stuck
Apple says installation time varies with update size and the number of files on the device. Keep the iPhone connected to power. A slowly moving progress bar is not by itself proof that the update has failed, so do not disconnect a computer or force a restart merely because the estimate changes.
If the iPhone shows the Apple logo for several minutes with no progress bar, repeatedly restarts, or displays the connect-to-computer screen, move to Apple's recovery guidance. That is a different condition from a normal slow installation.
Update with a Mac or Windows PC
When wireless updating still fails, Apple supports updating through Finder on macOS Catalina or later, or through the Apple Devices app on Windows. Back up first, update the Mac or Apple Devices app, connect the iPhone directly rather than through a keyboard or hub, unlock it, and approve Trust This Computer if prompted.

Recovery mode: choose Update before Restore
Recovery mode is an escalation step for a phone that will not start normally, is not recognized, or remains on the connect-to-computer screen. When Finder or Apple Devices offers Update or Restore, Apple instructs users who have not tried updating to try Update first. Update reinstalls iOS while attempting to keep personal data; Restore erases the device and reinstalls iOS.
If Update fails, a button is broken, or the device cannot complete recovery mode, stop repeating the same operation and contact Apple Support or an authorized service provider. A backup made before the failure determines what can be recovered after an erase; recovery mode does not create a backup.
What not to do
Do not install an unofficial profile or firmware file to force iOS 27 onto an unsupported model. Do not erase the iPhone as the first response to a network or storage message. Do not remove organization management from a work device, and do not repeatedly unplug a computer during an active update. Each of those actions increases risk without addressing the most likely checkpoint first.
